Chester is the tenth best value city in the UK for a hotel stay, according to Trivago.

The hotel comparison site has revealed its annual Best Value UK City Index, which includes 26 cities with at least 50 hotels and an average of at least 150 reviews per hotel.

The index combines hotel price data with aggregated user reviews and ratings, and this year Chester comes out at number 10, with an average hotel price of £98, behind Plymouth which topped the list, and above London, which came out as the worst value.

Denise Bartlett from Trivago said: “By combining hotel price data with aggregated hotel reviews, the Best Value Index promises travellers satisfaction for their money – cities where hotels are both reasonably priced and highly rated.

"It is interesting to see smaller, less-visited destinations such as Plymouth and Salisbury ranked highly in the index. It is, however, of little surprise to see London at the bottom of the list. With the most expensive average hotel price of any city the UK, London is often criticised for its poor value hotel rooms.”

Earlier this year, price comparison study Trip Index UK ranked Chester the seventh cheapest for an August Bank Holiday break, with an average day spend coming out at £238.52.

And back in September, Chester outranked hundreds of other places in the country to be named the best place to live in the UK by the UK Hot Housing Index.
