Two Chester hotels are considered among the best in the country, according to Trivago.

In the latest in a string of nods, Edgar House is now celebrating yet another honour - being named number 18 in the Top 20 Hotels in the UK list, and number 4 in the Top North West hotels.

And Stone Villa B&B in Hoole was rated number 8 in the regional category, based on 190 million online user ratings from more than 30 websites.

The honour is the latest in a string of accolades for Edgar House, who in recent weeks have been named in The Good Hotel Guide and made the top 10 city hotels in the Sunday Times’ top 100 for the second consecutive year.

Both hotels beat off stiff competition from the likes of Lakeside House in Keswick, Cumbria and Brindleys in Bath to make the top 20, with the overall best hotel in the UK named as Hotel 41 in London.

The Arthington Guest House in Blackpool was named the top in the North West, followed by The Redstone, also in Blackpool and The Sun Inn, in Kirkby Lonsdale, Cumbria.

Tim Mills, who co-owns Edgar House with Michael Stephen, said: “We’re absolutely thrilled, it’s wonderful news.

"We’re bowled over by it, it’s one of those things - we do what we do every day not really thinking about things like this, just as long as our customers are happy.

“But when we were contacted by Trivago we were thrilled. We’re also really happy for Stone Villa, we haven’t been there yet but we know they are lovely people.”
