The Olivier Award-winning story of the life of comedian Eric Morecambe, Morecambe, brings sunshine to the Crewe Lyceum Theatre on Saturday, April 12.

The unmissable production by writer Tim Whitnall makes its first appearance in Crewe this spring as part of a national tour. Bob Goulding stars as comedy icon Eric Morecambe in a show which explores the moving and often hilarious tale of Morecambe’s climb from a music hall performer, to entertaining the nation on Christmas Day.

Gary Morecambe, Eric’s son, said: “On stage his performance captures the spirit of Eric, and cleverly delivers the important bits of his story in a whistle-stop tour of his life that is quite astounding to behold."

Morecambe won an Edinburgh Fringe First Award on debut at the Edinburgh Fringe Festival in 2009. On the West End it won the Olivier Award for Best Entertainment, and actor Bob Golding was nominated for the Best Actor Olivier Award for his role as Morecambe.

“Morecambe is a heart-warming, laugh-out-loud and emotional production that promises to bring sunshine to the audience,” marketing manager Gemma Whalley said. “Eric Morecambe influenced some of today’s most popular comedians with his warm and appealing humour. The show captures Morecambe’s charm for a humorous and uplifting evening.”

2014 marks the 30th anniversary of Eric Morecambe’s death. Voted Funniest Comedian of the 20th Century in a 1999 poll, Eric Morecambe formed one half of the comedy duo Morecambe and Wise. Known to viewers for their classic sketch comedies, The Morecambe and Wise Show had some of the highest viewing figures on the BBC during its run.

Morecambe appears at Crewe Lyceum Theatre on Saturday 12 April at 7:30pm. Tickets are £18.00 and are on-sale now.
