Friends of Chester Literature Festival enjoyed the hit drama Town so much at last year's Essar festival that they have invited the show back for their summer evening event on Monday, June 2 in Christleton.

Town, which has played to more than 435 people in village halls, churches and libraries during its tour, is billed as the multimedia tale of a daughter’s quest to find her birth mother, helped by a stranger and the magic of a town’s annual festival.

“We are delighted to do an encore for the Friends because Chester Literature Festival was one of the first venues to invite us to perform Town after our successful launch last July,” said former Cheshire Poet Laureate Joy Winkler, who lives in Macclesfield and wrote Town after getting involved in her local Barnaby festival.

Joy will perform Town with live musical accompaniment by another former Cheshire Poet Laureate, Andrew Rudd, and special guest violinist Daniel Axworthy.

Town's film backdrop features street scenes by Cheshire artists Ian Coppack, Karen Ross and Carl Longmate.

“Several of our members saw Town at the Essar Festival last October and loved the play's original and entertaining combination of poetry, music and art,” said Carol Archer of Friends of Chester Literature Festival, which has 160 members and organises regular events and outings.

She added: “Non-members are welcome to join us for our summer evening of performance, especially as this will be the last chance to see Town before its successful tour ends.”

Joy Winkler will be launching her next poetry project in July on the language of flowers.

Town can be seen at 7pm on June 2 at The Cheshire Cat in Whitchurch Road. Tickets £12 (£10 members) to include a glass of wine, beer or soft drink.
