An exciting fusion of theatre and Persian cuisine is on the menu in two Chester venues next week.

Following its first successful UK tour in 2014, Farnham Maltings Theatre Company returns to Cheshire with its highly acclaimed theatre production called Iranian Feast.

The play is written by Kevin Dyer, who is well known for his nationally acclaimed work with Action Transport and other companies.

Iranian Feast features traditional Persian food prepared by Abbas, his wife and daughter with help from their friends and neighbours.

Part thriller, part cookery lesson this is a story of a family working out how life will be in the future. One that is surprising, uplifting and a celebration of being alive. Going in the pot are fresh herbs, spices, sweet vegetables, and Eli’s mother’s secret ingredient.

Artistic director of Theatre in the Quarter Matt Baker is delighted to be hosting a performance at St Mary’s Creative Space.

He said: “The Iranian Feast is a contemporary piece of British theatre – with delicious food – set in modern day Tehran. This company were only here a few weeks ago where they brought their theatre adaptation of It’s a Wonderful Life which sold out. The company fell in love with the delightful space, and they even reported back that it was their number one venue of the Christmas tour!

“I am very confident that audiences will love Iranian Feast either in the sumptuous surroundings of St Mary’s Creative Space or in the wonderfully intimate surroundings of Mollington Village Hall where our company has toured to recently.

“This is not the first time Iranian Feast has toured to Chester, we hosted it in the Garden Quarter in 2014, and the audience feedback was so incredible that I did not hesitate to bring it back.”

The play is one of many quality offerings which form part of the Cheshire Rural Touring Arts spring programme, bringing a rich array of dance, theatre and music to venues all over the city and county.
