A gallery is thinking outside the box with its latest exhibition which opens tonight (Friday, October 2).

‘Out of the Box’, an exhibition of contemporary textiles by the ConText group, opens at The Paperboat Gallery on Whitby Road in Ellesmere Port.

Drawn from Wirral and North Wales, the talented group of 10 makers, founded in 2009, meets regularly to stitch and play with different media.

All are members of either The Wirral Embroiderers’ Guild or the North Wales Embroiderers’ Guild.

The group says it is united by a passion for fabric and thread and has enjoyed thinking out of the box, leaving their comfort zones and trying something new for the exhibition.

Their work has already been exhibited at venues including the Cetra gallery in Heswall, the Williamson Art Gallery in Birkenhead, the Stables Gallery at Brimstage and Ruthin Library.

Gallery director Sonja Moss-Dolega said: “When setting up the display I couldn’t help but feeling very excited and pleased because of the high quality of design and variety of the pieces and the talent we are able to show this time.”

The exhibition opens tonight from 6.30-9pm and the gallery opening hours are: Tuesday and Wednesday from 1-6pm, Thursday and Friday from 10am to 5pm and Saturday 10am to 4.30pm.
