Classic Oscar Wilde comedy The Importance of Being Earnest is to be given a classy update from Cheshire-based Consensus Theatre when it arrives at Tarvin Community Centre on Saturday, April 25.

The innovative group has opted to set the play in the vibrant 1950s.

Theatre group founder Phillip Wade said: “The 50s were about fun and that’s what we’re planning to create on stage. We don’t have a director as such, we all take responsibility and offer suggestions. If they don’t work we change them.

“It’s a very refreshing way of working – and one which really brings out the best in us all as actors and in the characters themselves,” said Jane Rigby, another founder member of the group.

The small group of experienced and well-seasoned actors from across the region will be performing Wilde’s play at various venues over the next nine months, concluding with a one night’s performance at The Brindley in Runcorn on June 6.

The Tarvin performance starts at 7.30pm. Call 01829 740868 or call in at Tarvin Post Office in High Street. The production will support The Neuro Foundation and Macmillan Cancer Support.
