Chester Little Theatre’s summer production will be The Real Thing by Tom Stoppard which sees the writer at the height of his powers - sparklingly witty, genuinely moving and thought-provoking.

Its themes of love, marriage and infidelity have many echoes in Stoppard’s own life.

The auditions for this play will be held on Thursday, April 3, at 7.30pm.

To find out more before the auditions, come to an introduction by the director, John Mackay, and a part-reading of the play on Tuesday, April 1 at 7.45 pm.

The auditions will be open to all. The dates of production are July 5-12.

The play has a range of characters including two couples in their late thirties, early forties.

Henry is a brilliant but unhappy playwright whose real life intrigues of love and infidelity are reflected in the marital complications shown in his new stage play.

Charlotte, his wife, is in the starring role, providing another layer of intrigue, and Max plays her on-stage husband.

Reality and fiction blur – both for Henry and the audience - when passions ignite and he falls in love with Annie, Max’s wife.

There are also two younger men in the play: Brodie, an ex-soldier who is taken up by Annie as her protégé, and Billy, a young co-star in a play she’s rehearsing in Glasgow. Henry wonders if their relationship is strictly professional!

Finally there is Debbie, Henry and Charlotte’s 17-year-old daughter, a super cameo role with lots of witty repartee. She is definitely a match for her father.
