The 2014 Two Rivers Festival in Wirral reaches its climax on Sunday, May 11 in the Bushell Hall at Birkenhead School at 7.30pm.

Festival director Peter Davison said: “The last concert of the series is a sequence of words and music inspired by Wuthering Heights and the poetry of Emily Brontë called Unquiet Earth.

“It offers a wonderful chance to discover more about this enigmatic free spirit who loved the wild moors of Yorkshire, where her imagination could roam free.”

The music will be performed by the newly inaugurated Two Rivers Ensemble whose members include Clare Hammond (piano), Jane Wilkinson (soprano), Suzanne Casey (violin) and Kenneth Woods (cello).

Prior to the concert and during the interval there will be a display of Brontë-related artwork by the Yorkshire-based artist, Justine O’Brien.

The emotional heart of the concert is a new work by composer Robin Walker, who has set four of Emily Brontë’s poems for voice, violin and piano.

Extracts from her writings will be read by Peter Davison alongside a stormy piano sonata by Beethoven and his cantata Adelaide, which can be found among the Brontës’ music collection in Haworth.

Finally, the British première of Unquiet Earth by Fylde-based composer Andrew Keeling offers a haunting response to the sombre final lines of Wuthering Heights.

Tickets cost £15 (under 21s half-price) and can be purchased by calling 0151 651 3095 or purchased at the door.
