Alexander's in Chester is playing host to a Festival of Choirs on Sunday, July 13.

Choirs of every type will be performing throughout the day from the modern, soulful pop of Indigo Vibe to the Usherettes, the backing choir to the exotically titled Science of the Lamps.

Choirs are not all the same and there really will be something for everyone.

Each choir will perform twice, once on the main stage situated on the green at the back of Alexander’s, and once in the more intimate setting of the courtyard.

Other attendees include Hope Street Harmonies, a Liverpool based a’cappella choir.

Renowned for their diversity, they perform in an eclectic range of styles, from African and Gregorian songs right up to innovative re-workings of modern rock anthems.

Signature 5, the award-winning female vocal group, will also be making an appearance, delivering in a variety of styles from bluesy ballads and popular classics to barbershop.

Other performers on the day include the Chester Dee Sign Choir and Vocalize.

The event promises to be a wonderful celebration of the human voice and a unique opportunity to experience a range of different choirs all in one setting.

The festival is co-ordinated by Kaya Herstad-Carney, a lecturer in popular music performance at the University of Chester.

She will be leading a warm-up and sing-a-long at 12.30pm and all are welcome to join in.

A couple of days after the event she will be heading off to Hollywood to attend, teach and perform at the world’s premier pop music singing conference.

The Festival of Choirs is a free event taking place on Sunday, July 13 on the green at the back of Alexander’s.  It starts at noon and finishes at 5.30pm with another sing-a-long.
