We may not have the biggest budget or the largest squad, but our support is the best in the league in my view.

To see over 700 fans following us to Hyde and to hear the noise coming from the away end at Hereford was very special.

I was standing on the touchline on Tuesday night and I could hear our fans singing from the first minute of the second half to the last.

We are a part-time team in a league of predominantly full-time clubs, and there will be times when we find ourselves under the cosh.

I cannot emphasise enough what a lift that kind of support gives us.

When players are tired towards the end of a game and need to stretch for that ball or make an important tackle, that support can make the difference.

We have had some good results on the road, winning at Wrexham, Alfreton and Hyde, and our travelling support has been a big part of that.

I would love to see us creating the same atmosphere at the Swansway Chester Stadium and make it a real fortress. As a club I think that is something we do need to look at.

I look back at the Barnet game at the start of this season and the game at FC United of Manchester a couple of years back, the support was on another level and those games will live long in my memory.

We have a big game against Luton this week and it would be a huge lift to the players to hear you making that much noise. I know they all genuinely appreciate your support.

On another note, I would like to say thank you to the University of Chester for awarding me an honorary degree last week.

I was made a master of arts for services to the football club and although it was me standing on the stage in my cap and gown, the accolade is one for the whole club.

My management team have been unwavering in their support, every player to have pulled on the shirt has played their part, the volunteers who work tirelessly and you – the fans – have all contributed to the success we have enjoyed.

It was a very humbling experience and I was very proud that my family and two children were there to see it.

It was a huge honour for me and one I am very grateful for.
