Inbee Park, the number one ranked female golfer in the world, produced a superb final round 65(-7) to win her seventh major championship at the Ricoh Women’s British Open at Trump Turnberry.

The victory is Park’s 16th LPGA tour title and her sixth major win in her last 14 major starts, a truly incredible feat.

Given the fact that she is only 27, this remarkable run of form puts Park among the all-time golfing greats, with only Tiger Woods and Mickey Wright winning seven majors at a younger age.

Park, pictured inset, was three shots behind joint overnight leader and fellow South Korean Jin-Young Ko, who Park mentors, before producing a run of four birdies in a row around the turn. Park then eagled 14 and birdied 16 to eventually win by three shots.

It was a great performance by Jin-Young Ko, however, who is only 21 years old and was playing in her first ever major championship.

The top three was completed with another South Korean, So Yeon Ryu and New Zealand’s Lydia Ko after a 68(-4) and 69(-3) respectively.

All too often, elite female golfers don’t get the credit or attention that they deserve considering the quality of their golf games.

While they may not have the ‘wow factor’ that comes with the awesome power of a Bubba Watson or Dustin Johnson, I believe that golfers at home can learn more by watching the world’s best female golfers than they can the men.

Park averages just 248 yards from the tee, but is deadly accurate, hitting 76% of fairways and 75% of greens in regulation.

She possesses a fantastic short game and putts unbelievably well. This combination of accuracy and short game skills have led to Park having a scoring average of just 69.39 this year.

Unless you have a club head speed of 120mph-plus, the path to lower scores for you is a template similar to that of Park and company.

Work on hitting more fairways with your driver, rather than trying to hit the ball further. From here work on hitting more greens in regulation, giving you more birdie chances and making more pars.

Mostly, work on your short game and putting. With a razor sharp short game and putter, even on your off days you will be able to scramble a score. On your good days, you will have the skills to hole the putts needed to shoot great scores.
