Saughall's Lucy Evans has posted her two best times of the year so far.

The sprinter qualified for the final of the women’s 200m at the British Championships at Birmingham’s Alexander Stadium, clocking a season’s best of 24.46 seconds in the heats.

She then came sixth in the final (24.60) in a race won by Enfield’s Margaret Adeoye (23.51).

The previous weekend, Evans – a member of Sale Harriers – competed in Nivelles in Belgium, running a season’s best of 11.86 in the 100m to qualify for the B Final, which she went on to win in 11.82.

Meanwhile, eight West Cheshire AC members will compete in this weekend’s English Schools’ Track and Field Championships.

Emma Howe, George Hyde, Matthew Pagan, Sophie Percival, Isobel Griffin Morris, Emily Ball, Will Rattray and Daniel Berg will be aiming to return from Gateshead with national titles and medals from the event, which takes place on Friday and Saturday.

Howe heads for Gateshead ranked number one in the UK under 15 girls javelin lists after hitting 43.07m to win last month’s Cheshire Schools title at Warrington.

Pagan travels to the North East ranked fifth in the UK under 20 men’s 400m rankings after claiming a silver medal at the English 400m Championships at Bedford last month and will be looking to win a gold medal after pocketing a silver at last year’s English Schools, held at Birmingham’s Alexander Stadium.

Percival, who won a silver medal at last month’s Northern Championships, is currently ranked fifth in the UK under 20 women’s javelin ranking list with a personal best throw of 43.22m.

Griffin Morris will be full of confidence after spinning the discus to a new under 17 women’s personal best distance of 40.83m recently at Stockport to secure sixth place in her UK age group rankings.

Ball travels to Gateshead as the newly crowned Shropshire county shot put champion and is currently ranked eighth in the UK under 20 women’s rankings.

Rattray heads to Gateshead after securing top 20 positions in the under 15 boys discus and hammer throwing UK ranking lists, and Berg travels after securing 21st place in the under 15 boys hammer throwing UK rankings.
