WATERLOO produced a no frills performance to twice come from behind and register an impressive 19-14 victory at Darlington Mowden Park.

They've now won all six of their games in National league Three North and are four points behind leaders Halifax with two games in hand and a superior scoring points difference.

Mowden Park are a difficult team to beat on their own ground and Waterloo found themselves trailing 7-3 and then 14-12 before their leading try scorer Jan van Deventer went in for the all improtant try in the 68th minute which finally steered them to victory.

Until then it had been the accurate boot of skipper Tony Handley which had kept Waterloo in the game. He guided over four fine penalties and then added the conversion to Deventer's try to see Waterloo home.

It wasn't a classic but Waterloo emplyed the right tactics and had improtant contributions from pack stars Njike Tchakoute, Dan Palmer, Dave Mercer and Les Bone with Deventer the pick of the backs.

Liverpool St Helens 20 Longton 16:

LSH had to work hard to overcome Three North bottom club Longton after finding themselves twice in arrears.

Young winger Nick Royle was the man of the match in only his second senior start and his two tries made all the difference while Mike Nugent had a major input in the pack battle.

Royle's first try was a text book effort involving Simon Worsley and Alan Cross while his second was a spectacular solo effort from the halfway line in which he kicked ahead and collected the ball to go over.

Dan Cunliffe scored the other home try after good work by Worsley, Sean Casey, Cross and Danny Collins. Worsley wrapped it up with a conversion and injury time penalty.

Longton, who had led 5-0 and then 16-10 with only 19 minutes left, had a star performer in former LSH forward Tim Wood who scored their first try.

Orrell 32 Coventry 8: Orrell moved up menacingly into second place in Division One with their sixth successive victory and now trail leaders Worcester by five points.

Down 8-5 at half time, the introduction of returning Samoan World Cup star Steve So'oialo made the difference and the scrum-half ignited the backs while the industrious pack provided the platform for second hal f domination.

Nick Easter grabbed two tries with the rest coming from Adam Jackson, Leigh Hinton and Scott Barrow with David Slemen landing two conversions and a penalty.

Desides So'oialo, Orrell had top men in Simon Emms and Richard Wilks.
