THERE will be rugby union action at Hartsfield on Friday evening, but it will not be New Brighton taking the centre stage.

The match involves Wallasey and Port Sunlight in the final of the popular Wirral Floodlit Cup with a 7.30pm kick-off.

Wallasey, who have won promotion from South Lancashire/Cheshire Three, will step out as clear favourites but Sunlight from Division Four can never be written off.

Nearly all the Merseyside and Wirral clubs have now finished for the season apart from sevens activity at Caldy on the first weekend in May, but Hoylake face extra time on Saturday when they play a re-arranged South Lancashire/Cheshire Two match at home to Ashton on Mersey.

And everyone will wish Caldy well in their promotion play-off game away to Middlesborough on Saturday. It is certainly a big ask.

Cheshire hope to fulfil a game against the Anti Assassins at Sale on Wednesday of next week to give their squad vital practice ahead of the County Championship match against Durham at Winnington Park on May 1.
