Director of rugby Nic Corrigan is looking for a much improved  performance when Chester play host to  second-placed Stourbridge this weekend (October 26).

Corrigan felt he had to apologise for  Chester's  ‘unacceptable’  showing in a  14-0 defeat to Leicester Lions on Saturday.

It was a third successive defeat for  the side, who had started the season  so brightly with four straight wins.

Corrigan is particularly concerned  Chester keep better discipline. Two  players, David Ford and John MacKenzie,  were in the sin bin in the first  half when  Leicester made their mark  with two converted scores.

Ford and MacKenzie returned to  the pitch before the interval but William Nelson also saw yellow after the  break.

“We played 50 minutes with 15 men  on the pitch and at one point of the  game we had 13 men on the pitch,”  Corrigan said. “It’s not necessarily  discipline but game management we  were poor at.”

Corrigan admitted his team had  only themselves to blame for not  making more of their scoring  chances.

“We had six opportunities to score a  try,” Corrigan said.  “I’ve got people  who can’t keep their composure. We   were poor, including myself, from top  to bottom and we’re sorry to our  supporters, simple as that.”

Chester hope they won’t be hit so  hard by injuries this weekend  after  five senior players missed out against  Leicester.

Chester 2nds went down to a 41-17  loss at Sedgley Park 2nds in the  Bateman BMW Premier Division.  Next up is a derby at Birkenhead  Park 2nds this Saturday.

Christleton are flying high in  second spot in Division Three South  of the North West Intermediate  Leagues.

On Saturday, they recorded a 14-7  home win over St Edwards OB 2nds.

This Saturday they travel to  Wilmslow 3rds.

Helsby are due to entertain  Knutsford in South Lancs/Cheshire  Three onSaturday.
