Altrincham Kersal 8Chester 36

LIFE on the road clearly suits Chester!

They have played three of their opening four matches this season away from Hare Lane – and have won all three.

Altrincham, newly promoted to National League Three North, were Chester’s latest victims on Saturday.

The hosts, who won the toss and opted to play with the slope in their favour during the first half, went 3-0 up with an early penalty.

But Chester surged into the lead thanks to a Lloyd Hayes penalty and a try from skipper Andy Moore, converted by Hayes.

Although Kersal went over with a try of their own to make it 10-8 at the break, they had no answer to Chester in the second half.

A try by Peter Rees was converted by Hayes and, with the away side growing in confidence, Marcus Lyon chased a Liam McGovern kick and scored.

Hayes added the extras with an excellent kick from the touchline.

Chester banked their bonus point when hooker Liam Gill went over in the corner. Hayes then danced over late on to score the game’s final try before kicking the conversion.

Unbeaten Chester are at home to Beverley this Saturday (3pm).

A dominant Chester 2nds pack secured an excellent 19-10 win against Caldy 2nds at Hare Lane.

A drive from the forwards led to winger Nathan Swarbrick scoring the opening try. Chester No8 and skipper Barry Holmes then went over, Lloyd Griffiths converting, before Caldy answered with an unconverted try.

The speedy Sion Rowlands sprinted 50m to score in the second half and Griffiths converted, ensuring a late Caldy try was only a consolation.

Chester travel to Liverpool St Helens 2nds this Saturday.
