Will Goodwin has thanked Chester RUFC after the fly-half completed a move to Championship club Rotherham Titans.

Goodwin has been a standout for the National League Two North outfit over the past couple of seasons and his performances have now earned him a chance in the professional ranks.

He follows in the footsteps of centre Lloyd Hayes, who moved from Hare Lane to Rotherham in 2014 and is now a first team regular for the Titans.

"I am very grateful for the opportunity Lee Blackett has given me and I am looking forward to a new challenge with Rotherham and fighting for a first team spot," Goodwin told the Titans' website.

"Rotherham have a cracking environment and you can see why they have produced so many Premiership players in the past. I’m very excited to start and to get playing with this quality group of players and hopefully I will really develop my own personal game.

"A big thanks must also go to Chester RUFC for the two seasons I have played there. It has been some of the best rugby moments for me personally and I would not have been able to achieve the honours I have without their support and help and I wish them all the best for the future."

Goodwin, who can also operate at scrum-half, made 20 appearances for Chester last season, scoring seven tries and kicking 151 points.

Rotherham's outgoing head coach Lee Blackett, who will join Premiership giants Wasps this summer, believes Goodwin has the potential to make the step up.

"Will has been playing his rugby at Chester and we know what a good club they are," said Blackett.

"A lot of people were talking about Will and so we had a good look at him. He has the ability to play fly half or scrum half, although he probably prefers the 10 jersey.

"We think he’s a really good player, he has great feet and we believe he’ll push our tens all the way for a starting place."
