HUW Jones scored a club record-equalling five tries on his farewell appearance for Moore.

They took a weakened side, due to several late cry-offs, but scored three quick unanswered tries.

The very impressive Jones, who is leaving the area due to working commitments and was making his final appearance in black and gold, scored them all.

The home side, two divisions Moore's junior, got back in the game with a couple of tries just after half-time.

But the overall strength of the visiting pack paid dividends when Peter Woollacott crossed and the unstoppable Jones added two more.

Richard Walker converted five from six and Helsby got further points in injury time.

Man-of-the-match Jones will certainly be a hard act to follow, and for Moore to replace, at inside centre.

Moore 2nd 66 Stockport 3rd 0

LEAGUE leaders Moore outplayed a Stockport team, completely unrecognisable from the one which had beaten Moore earlier in the season.

Moore's forwards dominated and provided a solid platform for the backs.

Evergreen Bob Sanchez bagged three tries while Tony Hallsworth (2), Chris Bullough (2), Mark Hankey (2), Paul Beddard, John McGuggan and Ian Carroll added the rest. McGuggan converted five and Hallsworth popped over a drop goal.

Best for Moore were forwards Hankey, Hallsworth and Sanchez.

Moore 3rd 19 Helsby 2nd 34

MOORE put up a creditable display against a strong Helsby side, despite going down 19-0 in the first half.

Dave Orme and Matt Ryder (2) provided the tries which put Helsby firmly in the driving seat.

Gordon Lilley also crossed before the break but, despite Helsby finding things harder in the second half, Martin Perry and Bells Development MoM Ryder, who completed his hat-trick, made certain. Dave Orme kicked the goals.

Moore's points came with tries from Dave Evans (2) and Mark Dix-Baker plus two conversions from Evans.

Man-of-the-match for Moore was Dave Evans while strong support came from Jason Christie, Kevin Gibbons and Dave Lilley.
