HOME skipper Neil Percival rued his side's mistakes as two 'daft' tries ensured they were edged out by a single point against fourth-placed Wallasey.

Percival said: 'I don't know what we've got to do to win, it's unbelievable, we were by far the better team but somehow we threw it away despite a tremendous effort from the lads. Both sides had to battle against the strong winds but Wallasey's first try was horrendous. The ball squirted out of a ruck in their half and next thing their winger's running down the pitch to score.'

A Dave Layder penalty had put the hosts ahead and after they conceded their first try, he restored Port's lead with another penalty.

A second Wallasey try gave the visitors a 10-6 half time advantage and although Layder completed his hat-trick of penalties after the break, he and his teammates were left frustrated after he missed one in front of the posts before the interval.

Ellesmere Port travel to third-placed Crewe & Nantwich on Saturday.
