CHESTER saw off high-riding Hull 20-16 to put themselves in with an outside chance of a top-two finish in North One.

There was never much between the sides and it was a tense finish after the gap closed to four points. But it was a deserved success for the Hare Lane outfit with big performances from centre Steve Burke and the front row of Gavin Woods, Jason Goulding and Steve Kelly.

Ian Brookes, Taylor and Sean Green gained the Chester tries and Tom Foden a conversion and a penalty. Hull crossed twice and also managed a brace of penalties but defeat was a huge blow for them.
