CHESTER finally put their name on the Cheshire Cup on Sunday when they beat Wirral at Caldy.

Retiring director of rugby Terry Allen bowed out on a high following the 20-13 victory and paid tribute to Wirral, who play several leagues below Chester.

'We had to dig deep to win,' he said. 'It was a really tough battle and I was very impressed with everything about the Wirral club.

'We have waited a long time to win this trophy and it was the perfect way to finish my stint as DoR. We have a new management structure in place now and I am confident we will go from strength to strength.

'Our new DoR, Steve Dorrington, knows what he wants to improve the team. We already have a lot of talent at the club and our junior set-up is second to none.

'But the strength of any side is in its front five and you can't get them from your youth teams. We will have to recruit in this department and that will take money. I hope the local community and business sector will support us in our endeavour to get into the National League.

Chester finish their league campaign tomorrow with a visit to Aspatria in Cumbria. The team is M Davies, Goulding, A Davies, Sanger, Withers, Hughes, Germishuys, Woods, B Foden, King, T Foden, Parry, Burke, Lyle, Johnson. Replacements: Norcross, Ellis, Dykes.
