MEMBERS of the City of Chester Triathlon Club booked world championship places at the Shropshire Triathlon.

The Ellesmere event was the first of four qualifying races for September's World Triathlon Championships in Hamburg and it saw many Chester Tri athletes competing for age group places in the Great Britain team.

Ellie Debenham and Linda Worrall both came third in their respective age categories. The pair completed the 1,500m lake swim, 25-mile bike and 10k run in two hours, 21 minutes and 16 seconds and 2:26.07 respectively, earning themselves a place in the team for the worlds.

The first Chester club member over the line was Jonathan Bradshaw, who turned in an excellent time of 2:17.38.

He was followed by Kelly Crickmore (2:22.18), Peter Timson (2:24.52), Dave Taylor (2:26.55), Julie Webb (2:27.26), Duncan Bailey (2:27.30), John Darby (2:29.27), John Swinney (2:29.52), Graham Blair (2:30.34), Joanne Lawrence (2:31.39), Andrea Mageean (2:39.19), Dave Whieldon (2:40.01), the 'Chester Chicks' relay team of Caroline Frank/Damaris Darby and Ruth Hellbauer (2:45.14), Dave Humphries (2:48.40), Emer McCarron (2:52.27), Mike Jones (3:17.57) and Liz Scott (3:21:32).
