Danielle Lowe is looking to the future after her first experience of a major international competition at the 2014 Commonwealth Games in Glasgow.

West Cheshire College student Danielle represented Team England in the 400m individual medley and the 200m breaststroke.

Danielle failed to reach the final of the latter event after finishing fourth in her heat in 2:33.88, but she made the medley final after swimming 4:48.09 to take third in her heat.

In the final, Danielle clocked 4:48.95 to finish eighth behind Scotland’s Hannah Miley, who took gold in a Commonwealth record time.

Danielle, 19, admitted she was disappointed with her performance but said the Games had been an unforgettable experience.

“I’ve had a great experience that I will never forget, unfortunately with two disappointing swims,” she posted on Twitter.

“However, onwards and upwards. Getting my surgeries out of the way this summer with a well-needed rest and I’ll be back fit and fighting next season.”

Danielle, from Bebington on the Wirral, began swimming at the age of 10 with Birkenhead Swimming Club and now represents City of Derby Swimming Club

She has been combining her training with completing her BTEC diploma in sports and exercise at West Cheshire College’s Ellesmere Port campus.

Geoff Hilton, programme leader for sport at West Cheshire College, said: “We are so proud of Danielle, she is extremely dedicated to swimming and very talented.”

Danielle will move to the University of Derby in September to train with six-time Commonwealth Games medallist Mel Marshall as she looks towards the Rio 2016 Olympic Games.
