Fishing stick float and maggot brought him 24lbs 7oz of roach and skimmers, well ahead of Dave Stewart who had 7-11-0 of roach and Jimmy Page with 7-4-0 roach.

Rod 'N' Reel team members were up front in the Hampton Springs Fishery open match. Lee Saville won with 23-8-0 of carp and barbel, followed by Stuart Holmes with 23-7-0.

Chester Police flyfishers went to Dearn-ford Hall Fishery at Whitchurch where Dave Allen took four rainbows weighing 9-12-4 to beat Mike Wellman's 8-4-6 and Jim Fryer's 8-0-1.

Les Picken claimed victory in the Tarvin Sands AC Tuesday match at Cheshire Fishery, Tattenhall, with a skimmerbased 33-4-0, giving him the edge over Sam Kennedy who had 32-12-0 of carp. Ellick Peters was third with 17-12-0 of carp. The Thursday match went to Shaun Sandham with 16-4-0 of carp, ahead of Phil Iball's 13-8-0 of carp and Dave Roberts who landed 12-8-0 carp.

Dennis Topliss was an easy winner of the Burton Mere Fishery Wednesday open match with 40-8-0 of carp and barbel, from Les Picken's 27-6-8 carp and John Heald's 19-14-0 of the same.

Neston's John Carr came out on top in the 36-hour carp match at Burton Mere Fishery. Drawn on the mere, he coaxed a 13-9-0 common carp to a boilie to beat Ellesmere Port's Andy Wilkie's 13-1-0 mirror carp and Matthew McArdle, of Neston, with a 9-12-0 mirror.

Mike Taylor led at the end of the Lobol AC match at their priory pool with a 6-14-0 common carp in his 7-3-0 bag. Danny Boothroyd was runner-up with a 5-5-8 mixture and Geoff Selby was third with a roach-based 4-13-0.

Top in the Castrol SAS match out of Penarth was Graham Owens, who landed a 14lbs conger eel taken with squid. Kevin Wise had an 8lbs skate and Stewart Birkes a 6lbs skate.

Wirral Borough Council AC stayed seventh in the Winsford Winter League after finishing fifth in the latest match on the meadow bank length of the Weaver. Keith Williams was their top performer with 6-12-0 of roach and skimmers, backed up by Kenny Stewart with 5-15-0 and Andy Walsh with 5-1-0.

Victory in the Saltney Social AC match at Cheshire Fishery, Tattenhall, went to Andy Williams with 24-8-0 of carp. Ray Gillam's 14-8-0 mixture and Lee Fawcett's 14-4-0 mixture followed.

Trevor Roberts won the Railway, Barrow AC match on the Severn at Gravel Hill with 6lbs of small fish, enough to beat Bob Ruscoe's 4-12-0 and Colin Owen's 2lbs.

Robbie Woods was an easy winner of the Lingmere Fishery Thursday open match with a carp-based 43-8-0, beating Steve Balson's 19-4-0 and Richie Heron's 15-12-0. The Saturday match was won by Alan Dewhurst with a 42-12-0 mixture, from John Armour's 33-2-0 and Woods' 29-12-0.

A 6-3-0 catch of bream and chub earned Terry Archer top spot in the Helsby Sports and Social Club AC match on the BICC pools. Malcolm Lightfoot was next with 4-2-0 of chub and roach with Steve Furfie third with 3-10-0.

Bob Vickers had a 5-4-0 brace of rainbows to win the Mickle Trafford AC top-brace contest at Ellerdine Lake, both taken with buzzers. Following were John Chamberlin with 5-1-0 and Alan Bell with 4-4-0.

Andy Amos was the high flyer in the Airbus, Broughton AC match on the Weaver with 5-4-0 of roach, ahead of Jason Rodgers with 4-8-0 and Dave Jones with 4-2-0. This was the final match on the summer league and Kevin Thornton was confirmed champion.

Junior angler Danny Mort was top of only two weighers in the Grosvenor Estate AC match on the Dee at Holt. His 0-9-0 of roach and chub pipped John Mort's 0-5-0.

Mark Goodwin won the Chester Tackle Locker open match on the SU Canal at Egg Bridge, Waverton, with 5-4-0 of roach, beating Bernie Leatherbarrow's 4-4-4 of roach and Simon Loyley's 3-9-6.

The Fisherman's Tackle team went fourth in the Heronbrook Fishery Winter League by finishing third on Sunday, thanks to Colin Cooke, a section winner with 35lbs of carp, Steve Carrier with 20lbs and Gary Bough's 20-12-0.

FISHERIES NEWS Meadow: Alan Slater, of Chester, netted the top fish of the week, a 7-8-0 rainbow to a viva, and Chester's Ray Moore landed a 5-6-0 rainbow.

Milton Green: Colin Cravel, of Wirral, netted 41-9-0 of carp to pellet and Dave Campbell, also of Wirral, coaxed 39-7-0 of carp to micro pellet.

Lake Hill: Tony McGibbon, of Chester, netted the top fish of the week, a 9-12-0 rainbow and a 4lbs rainbow to ledgered worm.

Dearnford Hall: Chester's Ken Devall lifted their best fish of the week, a 9-6-0 rainbow to a cruncher, and Don Paul, of Broughton, lured a 7-7-0 brownie to a daddy longlegs.
