CYCLING: Carl Ruebotham and Dave McKay came second in the Wills Wheels two-mile two-man team time trial last week, recording a time of 55mins 49secs - the Weaver Valley Cycling Club men were beaten by the Preston Wheels team with 54mins 9secs.

Taking a break from riding professionally for the French team Credit Agricol, Bradley Wiggins rode on his own, powering round the course in an unbelievable 51mins 19secs.

Graham Gregory and Steve Thomas rode tandem in the Prescot Eagles 10-mile time trial, winning the tandem event in a time of 21mins 53secs, and Thomas rode the solo event beforehand at 23mins 15secs, taking 12th place overall.

Gregory was in action again with Nick Butterworth in a 50-mile road race on a course based around Great Budworth. The full field of 50 riders was flagged away from the HQ at Witton Albion, but Gregory punctured on lap three. The race ended in a bunch sprint and Gregory did well to take 9th place, gaining more points for his second licence. Butterworth finished strongly in 17th place.

The club's 10-mile time trial continues on Thursday night, starting at 7pm from Moss Road in Byley. Tuesday night's League International road race series had to be cancelled due to road works on the course at Church Minshull. The series continues on Tuesday night at Lower Withington for a 7pm start.

The club meets at 8.30pm onwards at White Lion pub in Cuddington on Mondays.
