Vauxhall Motors have lost one of last season’s star players to their nearest neighbours.

Winger Craig Mahon has completed a transfer to Chester FC after catching the eye of Blues boss Neil Young with some impressive performances.

The 23-year-old Irishman was named the supporters’ player of the year at Rivacre Park last season and made 133 appearances for the club, scoring nine goals.

The former Wigan and Burscough man was out on contract at Vauxhall and desperate to test himself at Conference Premier level.

Chester boss Young, who guided his team to promotion from the Blue Square Bet North division last season, said: ““Every time I’ve watched Craig he’s been outstanding.

“He can play on the left, on the right and in behind the forward. He’s very clever and knows the game.

“His work ethic, willingness to learn, attitude and commitment is also first class. He’s had a fantastic time under Carl Macauley at Vauxhall and hopefully we’ll give him an opportunity to showcase his skills in the Conference.

“I’ve never seen a lad more keen to come to Chester FC than Craig Mahon. He realises it’s a massive opportunity.”

Mahon tweeted: “A big thanks to everyone @vmfc for their support over the last three seasons. I’ve loved my time at the club. The fans, staff and players are top class.”

Vauxhall have announced details of a sponsorship raffle which they hope will attract support from local businesses. Companies can buy a ticket for £100 (plus VAT) and win prizes worth up to £3,000. For further information, visit the club’s website www.pitchero.com/clubs/vauxhallmotorsfc.
