Vauxhall Motors’ preparations for the new season stepped up a gear this week as four players put pen to paper on new deals.

Left-back Louis Barnes, midfielder Chris Noone, centre-back David Kocsis and versatile defender Steve Wainwright have all committed their futures to the Rivacre Park outfit.

It means manager Carl Macauley’s squad is closer to being complete as the pre-season campaign gets under way.

Barnes, 21, penned a one-year deal on Sunday.

The left-back arrived at Rivacre Park in November from Conference Premier club Southport and quickly established himself as a pivotal player last season, making 16 appearances and scoring one goal.

Midfield man Noone, who is in his second spell with the club, burst into the team back in 2005/06 when he made a goalscoring debut as a substitute against Gainsborough Trinity. With Vauxhall looking to compete with bigger spending rivals in the Conference North next season, the 28-year-old’s imposing presence will be key for Macauley.

The Motors boss is also happy to have snared Hungarian-born Kocsis for another year after the centre-back made a solid start to his Vauxhall career with 11 appearances in 2012-13.

As for Wainwright, his signing is a huge lift for the club. The youngster arrived following his release by Tranmere Rovers last summer and made a positive impression in 27 league appearances.

As Macauley’s squad building gathers pace, preparations for the club’s big charity match are progressing well.

Vauxhall’s FA Cup giant-killing team from 2002 will reunite to take on a Tranmere Former Players XI at Rivacre Park on Sunday, August 4.

The match is part of Vauxhall’s 50th anniversary celebrations and will raise money for Diabetes UK and the Tranmere Former Players Foundation.

Marine manager Phil Brazier, a popular defender in his Rivacre Pak days, is looking forward to the reunion.

He said: “I’ve not seen the lads for about 10 years so it’ll be good to see where they’re at, what they’re doing and obviously have a fantastic day and raise some money for charity. I might have to do some pre-season training with the lads!”

The Motormen began their pre-season schedule at Bootle last night in a match played after the Pioneer had gone to press. Macauley’s men go to Burscough on Saturday (3pm) and host AFC Fylde next Tuesday (7.30pm).

Vauxhall Motors FC Community Sports is taking bookings for the club’s Summer Soccer Camps which will run through July and August. For further information contact Andy at vmfcc@live.co.uk or call 07801573999.
