THE Motormen kept up their 100% record in the League Cup at Rivacre Park last night.

But they were made to work hard by Witton after surrendering a two-goal half-time lead.

Vauxhall went ahead on 18 minutes when Wayne McDermott's measured through-ball met Terry Fearns, who had beaten the visitors' offside trap.

Fearns rounded the onrushing Greg Price in the Witton goal and tapped the ball into the empty net.

Vauxhall doubled their lead three minutes before the break when Fearns drove in from an angle after Price could only parry Kevin Thompson's low, long-range effort.

The home side seemed to be in command but were shaken by two Albion replies within 10 minutes of the restart.

Firstly, tricky left-winger David Anane dribbled his way through the

Motormen's rearguard on 50 minutes before hitting a low shot into the right-hand corner.

Five minutes later, Witton were level as Anane's left-wing cross was met by skipper Brian Pritchard.

His close-range effort was caught by Steve Hilton but was adjudged to have already crossed the line by the referee's assistant. Vauxhall hit back on 65 minutes as Stuart Wright's corner was headed in at the near post by Matt Haddrell.

Vauxhall: Hilton, McDermott, Thompson, Brazier, Haddrell, Lynch, Croxton, Lawton (Ward 68), Cumiskey (Wright 60), Fearns, Stanhope.

Vauxhall return to FA Cup action on Saturday as Harrogate Town visit Rivacre Park (3pm). They then travel to Burscough on Tuesday for a UniBond League fixture.
