SNOOKER players in Halton are mourning two colleagues who died over the holidays.

William (Billy) Carroll, from Widnes, passed away on Boxing Day.

He had most recently been a member of the St Joseph's B team and before that, belonged to the now defunct Fiddlers Ferry side.

Mr Carroll's death followed the sudden death of Tony Farrington.

Mr Farrington, 43, from Runcorn, died on the Friday before Christmas.

He played for Weston Point's Pavilions B in the Widnes & District Snooker League and in the billiards league for Widnes Bowling Club.

The evening before his death, Mr Farrington had joined sons Kyle and Robin in Pavilions B's 6-3 win at Moorfield A, scoring a 65 break - the best in Division Two this season.

He also starred for Griffin in the Widnes Pool League and was well known in the Runcorn Pool League and Frodsham Snooker League.

On behalf of all members, the Widnes & District Snooker and Billiards Leagues send their deepest sympathies to the families and friends of both men.
