THE Good Samaritan who saved the life of an injured Chester triathlete has spoken about her role in the roadside drama.

As revealed in last week’s Chronicle, Charlotte Roach, of Hoole, suffered horrendous injuries when she was run over by a Land Rover after falling off her bike before Christmas.

The 21-year-old survived thanks to lifesaving treatment administered at the scene by Leicester Tigers rugby rehabilitation physio Julie Hayton, whose car was flagged down by chance near where the accident took place.

Hayton is originally from Walton and while they waited for the paramedics, she found a local affinity with Roach helped keep the athlete alive

“I recognised her accent and realised I could be a lot more stern with her to keep her conscious because she was a strong Northern girl,” said Hayton.

“She needed to stay awake while we waited for the ambulance crew.”

Paramedics told Julie that Charlotte would have died without her intervention.

After falling from her bike and going under the wheels of the 4x4, Charlotte was left with 12 fractured vertebrae, broken ribs, two punctured lungs and a snapped collarbone.

She had been training with colleagues from Loughborough University on a road outside Gaddesby, near Leicester.

Charlotte is now back in training and should be fully fit in six months.
