WIDNES Rec A experienced a full set of results but a win, draw and defeat were enough to take them to the Halton Table Tennis League's Division One summit.

Frank James and Paul Shaw scored trebles for the Rec A in a 9-1 defeat of Halton/Pavilions.

But hat-tricks by Howard Flint and Brian Wearden helped Sutton Manor B to over-come the high-riding Liverpool Road side 8-2.

Runcorn Sports Club A, meanwhile, held the Widnesians to a 5-5 draw as Katy Ingham scored three wins.

Ford A maintained their unbeaten start with Mal McEvoy, Phil Luxon and Rob Hughes all enjoying triple success.

Sutton CC's win at Runcorn Sports Club B was spearheaded by hat-trick men Alec Bryce, Eddie Clein and John Henshaw.

Frodsham A's John Perry won all his games in victory over Sutton Manor A.

The latter bounced back, however, with wins over Runcorn Sports Club A and Widnes Rec B in which John Appleton and Neil Baker took the solo spoils.

Sutton Manor B trio Mike Denmade, Howard Flint and Brian Wearden had 100% returns in their defeat of depleted Runcorn Sports Club A.

The Runcornians did much better with a full squad - toppling Frodsham B and Widnes Rec B with trebles from Katy Ingham, James Eaton and Sheldon Phillips.

Runcorn Sports Club C and Stockham Lodge are looking likely contenders in Division Two, even at this early stage. When the two met at Stockham, the game ended drawn with Dave Southall turning in an unbeaten display. The Lodgers also shared the points at Farnworth A with Dave's brother Jeff this time the headliner.

Farnworth A had a Vin Broome treble in victory at Sutton Manor C while Peter Wilson (Halton Seniors) and Eli Lilly's Peter Froes avoided defeat in wins against Dares-bury A and Widnes Rec C, respectively.

Halton Club A picked up useful points by beating their B team and drawing with Daresbury B. Chris Hatton and Halton's youngster of the year Matthew McCormick, 11, were their treble shooters and Helena Dennett replied in kind for Daresbury.

Widnes Rec's Roy Page, Wal Handley and Jeff Grundy overpowered Sutton Manor C, all hitting hat-tricks.
