SIMON Wilkinson edged out Reg Evans as the locals got a look in on the Northwich Open honours on Saturday, writes JOHN STUBBS.

After the recent big fields a high River Weaver deterred many anglers, but Wilkinson and Evans were in excellent form.

Wilkinson (Dave's of Middlewich) took two bream, two tench, skim-mers and rudd from peg 27 for 20-11-0, while Evans weighed in 20-1-0 from peg 53. Placed were Ian Morrison (Warrington) 17-10-0 and Jimmy Byrne (Shaw's Tackle) 16-5-0.

Arthur Kenney came up with a good final result to grab a half-share in the Barnton-Frodsham AC Wednesday evening series title.

He was second in the final match, but scored enough on the Weaver at Anderton to join leader Trevor Jones on 130 points in the overall list. Peter Moore was third. On the night Phil Hawkins had 16-9-0, Kenney 6-2-0 and Bob Foster 5-7-0.

Perhaps Jones was consoled by his outright victory in the D Anglers match at Meadow Bank.

Steve Walker won Barnton's C&P Cup at the same venue on Sunday, his 11-15-0 besting Dave Cowley 9-8-0 and Chris Parry 9-6-0.

Other Barnton results: Ladies Metcalf Cup - Lyn Morrison 9-9-0, Barbara Leicester 2-10-0, Sylvia Moore 1-8-0; Junior Summer Series 4th round, Junior Cistern - 8/12s Shane Bellis 3-6-8, Thomas Finney 1-7-8; 13/16s Tom Griffin 16-3-0, Christian Harris 5-0-08, Stephen Finney 2-3-8.

Jones won the D Anglers fixture with 7-9-0 to John Sudlow's 6-11-0, Peter Wakefield's 6-2-0 and Gerald Littler 6-0-0.
