Tom Doran has warned his rivals he will be going all out to claim the Prizefighter title and catapult himself into the limelight.

Connah’s Quay-based Doran has landed a shot at the Prizefighter Middleweights tournament at Blackpool’s Winter Gardens on February 14 when eight fighters will battle it out live on Sky Sports for the £32,000 prize and the coveted title of Prizefighter champion.

Doran resumed his boxing career last April after a three-year hiatus and the 27-year-old has won all 11 of his fights as a professional.

“It’s a brilliant opportunity and it was only a couple of weeks ago I was saying to people I’d love the chance to be in Prizefighter,” said Doran, who at Shotton ABC.

“I got a call on Christmas Eve from my promoter Dave Coldwell asking if I would be interested so I told him I definitely would and then it all came out between Christmas and New Year’s Eve.

“Six of the eight fighters have got unbeaten records and a lot of people are saying it’s the toughest one yet but the way I look at it that means it’ll mean more when I win.”

Doran had a frustrating end to 2014 when a planned fight for November was scrapped but his chance at Prizefighter and continued support from sponsors AJ Field Electrical and Mechanical, Crossfit Chester, Jack Sullivan PT and Complete Roofing Services has given hi renewed optimism for the future.

He said: “I like the Prizefighter format, it’s exciting and it’s great to watch. I don’t know if it’s great to be in but I’ll find out on February 14 and I’m not sure how many the Winter Gardens holds but I’m sure it’ll be packed.

“Prizefighter opens a lot of doors and you are virtually guaranteed a shot at the British title if you win. It happened for Prince Arron and Martin Murray, and it put Audley Harrison back in the spotlight.

“I was in the gym right up until my last fight fell through and I’ve started back so now it’s just about stepping things up. I think we’ll change a few things around with the pad work so instead of doing eight or nine rounds, we’ll do three really intense rounds and then a little bit of lighter skipping or shadow boxing.

“I’ve seen some fighters take their brains out and leave them in the changing room but it tends to be the boxers that win and I think the format will suit me.”

Tickets are now available from 07525 484407 and a coach will be running to Blackpool from Deeside.
