SNOOKER: WIDNES Cricket Club A were crowned champions of Division Two in the Widnes and District Snooker League after a 6-3 win over Ford B, writes Tom Whitaker.

Starring for WCC were Phil Gerrard, winning 63-29, Rob Taylor 65-45, Peter Kenny 62-34 and Ken Kennaugh 52-42.

Simms Cross A find themselves in joint second despite a 2-7 defeat by Widnes Rec, with Jack Lord winning 79-50, Paul Antrobus coming through 69-30 and Tony Yasities 69-41. Fiddlers B comfortably beat WBC 8-1 with D Staniford claiming an easy 86-26 victory and S Hodson winning 72-40.

Division Three was also decided with Halton Stadium A clinching the title after trouncing challengers Eccleston A 8-1.

Captain John Edge anchored the victory with a solid 77-21 win, including a 30 break. Paul Golden also starred, winning 72-31.

In Division One, RAOB took the top spot with a 7-2 win over reigning champions St Joseph's.

They were helped by a break of 36 from Frank Pennington, who won 88-24.

Shaun Cosgrove ran out an 89-30 winner and John Ratcliffe claimed a straightforward 89-42 victory.

Corporation A lie second after a 7-2 over St Basil's B with Robbie Morris making a break of 38 and a 22 clearance to win 65-35.

Brian Kennedy (78-57) and Bob Wycherley (71-39) saw St Bede's beat Farnworth A 8-1.

In Division Four, Widnes Conservative Club B took up third place with a tight 5-4 win over their C team, with Jimmy Gallagher securing an 81-39 victory.

Simms Cross C are fourth after an 8-1 win over Widnes Cricket Club B, with wins for P Price (75-50), W Murnane (81-43), R Leather (70-28) and J Price (63-53).

Division Five's RAOB E went second in the table with a 6-3 victory over third-placed Village Rooms, with notable victories for A Shingler (62-24) and W Raley (54-26).

Trem Darnell gained a 90-13 victory as Halton Stadium C ran out 6-3 winners over Farnworth C. Also triumphing were John Caldwell (73-33) and Tony Lewis (48-24).
