FORMER Isle of Man TT sidecar champion Phil Biggs is gearing up for more glory on the island circuit - following a seven-year absence.

The Saughall star, a winner of the first sidecar A title with Roy Hanks back in 1997, is aiming to emulate that success with current team-mate and Roy's nephew, Tom.

The duo, who are famous for their performances on the Dave Molyneux Chasse Yamaha R6 tuned engine, have been conspicuous by their absence from the event in recent years after they went in search of World Championship glory in the F1 class.

But after a special request from the Isle of Man Tourist Board, Phil was delighted to confirm their intentions to race.

He said: 'We've just had the practice week ahead of the race and we are hoping to gradually build towards two strong finishes.

'We've got a big reputation in the sport and when the Isle of Man Tourist Board asked us to compete we decided it would be good to go back and that it would bring back some fond memories for us.'

Since passenger Phil, 31, teamed up with driver Tom in 2000, the duo have established a strong partnership.

They have spent the past five years contesting the World Championship in a F1 Windle outfit and have achieved a succession of top-six finishes including third place in the 2004 World Championships, fifth in 2001 and 2002 and sixth in 2003.

The TT favourites began their Isle of Man challenge on the ex Klaus Klaffenbock DMR Yamaha outfit, courtesy of Clive Stirrat, riding under the Hani Racing team banner.

With eight British titles between the two of them, they are quietly confident of continuing their success in the future - if they can secure a new sponsor.

Phil said: 'Racing is in my blood, all my brothers race as sidecar passengers like me and my younger brother raced in the World Championships in Germany this week.

'But we need sponsorship to be able to compete competitively and so both myself and Tom are hoping that any local businesses interested in helping us achieve further success will give us a call.

'We would also like to thank Look-ers Renault and CT Signs for all their help.' If you are interested in sponsoring Phil Biggs and Tom Hanks call Phil on 07974979538.
