RISING star Eden Richardson made a flying start to the season with a double victory at the Notts Junior Open.

The 12-year-old from Stanney Oaks was one of the stars of the show at the big Nottingham Tennis Centre event as she won all 10 of her matches to net the under 12s and U14s girls titles.

Eden’s mum Lesley Jones said: “I am really proud of her.

“She works hard and she gives up so much to play. There could be birthdays or days out with friends which she will miss because she has to train. She is very self-motivated.”

Ellesmere Port City Tennis Club member Eden is currently ranked second in the U12s, first in the U13s and third in the U14s girls British ranking.

Next up for the Whitby High School student is a trip to Bulgaria to take part in clay-court training with the Lawn Tennis Association.

Lesley added: “She really loves competing and loves going to events.

“She competes at a higher level because she wants to push herself and it’s the best way to develop.

“I have to thank her school as they have allowed her time out to compete and train and really helped to support her career.”
