TIMES tumbled for the City of Chester Swimming Club as their members excelled at the Cheshire County Championships.

Numerous regional and personal bests were achieved at the county event, which was held over three weekends in Macclesfield and Liverpool.

Members of the Chester club also bagged 15 medals.

Nine Chester swimmers achieved qualifying times for the North West Regional Championships, or improved times.

Kyle Stubbs, 14, gained a North West regional qualifying time in the 400m freestyle, and 100m and 200m backstroke, finishing second in both of the backstroke events. He also came third in the 1,500m freestyle at Liverpool and improved his North West regional qualifying time in the 100m free.

Christopher Hooper, 11, won gold in the 50m breaststroke, silver for 50m backstroke and 100m individual medley (IM), and improved his North West regional qualifying time in the 100m breaststroke.

City of Chester’s Oliver Tobin, 13, gained a North West qualifying time in both the 200m backstroke and 100m butterfly. He also finished second in the 200m backstroke.

Harry Fleetwood, 14, gained a North West qualifying time in the 100m freestyle.

Also coming away with medals were Thomas Rowlands, also 11, who won silver in the 50m freestyle and clocked personal best times in two other races, and Matt Breen, who came third in the 50m butterfly.

Achieving personal best times for the boys were Ben Taberner 10, Connor Hone 11, Matthew Johnson, 14, and Jack Edwards, 15.

Leah Gough, 11, achieved personal best times in all of her races, gaining North West qualifying times in the 100m and 200m butterfly and claiming bronze in both races. Millie Riddick, 11, achieved personal best times in 12 of her 15 races, winning silver in the 800m freestyle in Liverpool.

She gained a North West qualifying time in the 200m IM. She also improved her North West times in the 400m freestyle, 100m backstroke and 400m IM.

Georgia Williams, 12, swam 13 personal best times from 16 races, gaining a host of North West qualifying times, and also winning silver in the 50m butterfly and bronze in the 200m butterfly.

Lauren Goodfellow, 15, improved her North West qualifying times in the 50m and 200m backstroke.

Laura Davies, 16, gained a North West qualifying time in the 100m freestyle, while Amy Fell, also 16, came away with the bronze medal for the 50m breaststroke.

Achieving personal best time for the girls were Phoebe Townsend, 10, Sophie Fisher, 10, Sophie Clarkson, 12, Isabel Gelder, 12, Lucy Osborne, 13, Laura Fell, 14 and Claudia Miller, 14.

A BAGCAT award, given out to the top six swimmers in each age group, was won by Georgia Williams.

Both City of Chester relay teams achieved personal best times.
