PUPILS from The Queen’s Lower School have proved their sporting prowess with a rounders and athletics successes in recent weeks.

The Year 6 girls finished the year on a high after winning the Association of Junior Independent Schools (AJIS) rounders tournament.

And a dozen girls from Years 5 and 6 impressed at an AJIS athletics competition in Wigan.

The rounders team won their group in the first stage at Stockport Grammar School in May, then beat King’s Macclesfield in the semi-finals.

But they saved their best for last – crushing The Grange School 9-0 in the final.

At Wigan, Queen’s were one of 25 independent schools from across the region in action.

They came home with a gold medal in the under 11 hurdles, as well as silvers in the U10 150m sprint and U10 high jump and a bronze in the U10 hurdles.

But the highlight was the performance of the U10 4x100m relay team, who displayed precision timing with their baton changes to scoop a brilliant gold.
