SNOOKER: UNITED Services clinched their second trophy in two weeks when they played Liberal Club A in the C D McAllister Trophy final at St Werburgh's.

Chasing a deficit of 80 points in this team handicap competition, Services went a further 16 points behind when Alan Dagnall defeated Andy Rose, but George Brady put Services back on track with a 14-point win.

Kevin Maxwell and Anthony Barnes had to have a re-rack in their frame when play became stalemate, and in the next frame, Maxwell won by just nine points.

Scott Wilkie had an easy 67-29 win to pull Services back to a 35-point deficit, and Craig Thelwell played brilliantly against Steve Ankers to put Services in the lead for the first time before captain Jason Taylor sealed the win. Although Upton RBL won the Drennan Trophy 3-0, the result belies the closeness of this tie against Christleton. In the first frame of snooker, Tony Ankers took the colours up to the pink to beat Mark Cook 55-43.

In the billiards frame, Glen Sheil (Upton) got the better of Alan Lea by a mere five points - 150-145.

In the second frame of snooker, John Gerrard came up against Chris Bennion and held him to his handicap lead up to the colours, but then let him in.

Bennion potted the colours up to the black and needed the black for the game to keep Christleton in the match. But after potting the black in the centre pocket, he went in off into the bottom pocket to give Gerrard the frame and Upton the match.
