ICE HOCKEY: Mark Stokes praised the determination of his players after his side's win over Sunderland.

Sunday's 6-4 victory ended the Flintshire Freeze's longest barren spell of an up-and-down season, and it means the defending champions are still in with a shot of the play-offs.

Although Stokes knows the Deesiders will have to re-assess their future once the present campaign is over, the long serving playermanager was just glad to get back to winning ways after three defeats on the spin.

He said: 'It was a good performance. We seemed to play without pressure and I thought we did well.

'I felt good playing back up front with Pete Founds, and it was great to have Steve Fellows back in the side.

'I think the game proved that we are still missing certain things and there are areas we'll have to address, but the scoreline didn't reflect our dominance.'

The result leaves Flintshire in fourth, one point ahead of nearest challengers and bitter rivals Blackburn Hawks.

Blackburn have four games left to play, while Stokes' men have just the one - against the Lancastrians on Sunday.
