RUNNING: STEPH Charman strode to seventh place at the Word Masters Mountain Running Championship in Keswick.

She clocked 1 min 04.26 secs in the ladies' Vet-55 category - over 9.5 kilometres with 476 metres of climb - on Lonscale Fell.

She was one of three competitors from Helsby Running Club.

Phil Barnes came in 155th with 1:20:21 in the men's V45 event over 11.6km with 684m of climb.

The final race was the blue-riband men's event for V40s in which Andy Smith finished 146th in 1:12:37, also over the longer course. Meanwhile, Helsby RC's Dave Norman (1:17.47) crossed for the second V45 prize and 23rd overall in the Lake Vyrnwy Half Marathon. Mike Hallsworth produced a personal best 1:36.39 for 201st spot.

In the ladies' race, Carol Shaw took 44th position in 1:40.34 - two places ahead of team-mate Vanessa Griffiths (1:40.47). They were followed by Sarah Gooda (122nd, 1:52.47) and Beverley Roberts (194th, 1:59.50).

Helsby Ladies A (Kathyrn Roberts, Mandy Blenkinsop and Vanessa Griffiths) took second in the first round of the Multi-Terrain Series at Royden Park.
