SNOOKER fans will get the chance to meet one of the sport’s true legends when he pays a visit to Ellesmere Port.

Six-time world champion and current television pundit Steve Davis will play a series of exhibition matches at the Groves Sports and Social Club on Friday, July 15.

The event has been arranged by the club’s managing director John Sutcliffe to celebrate Groves winning the Chester and District Snooker League Division One title.

Groves captain Kevin Maxwell said: “We’re absolutely chuffed to bits to get Steve Davis to come down here.

“We’re delighted that John Sutcliffe has done this to celebrate us winning the league for the first time in 15 years.”

Davis will be playing a number of exhibition matches against four individual competition winners, two from the Chester and District League and two from the Ellesmere Port League, as well as a match against Groves captain Maxwell.

“Hopefully I’ll get the chance to play against Steve as it would be absolutely amazing,” said Maxwell.

“Most importantly, though, we are hoping for a great night and a great turnout.”

Tickets for the event will be priced at £12.50 with further details available in the near future.
