ANGLING: WINSTON Duckers was in the frame in the Civil Service National Championship at Holgan Farm pools near Tenby where he fished second with nine carp weighing 72lbs 213oz.

Fishing for the Welsh region, his best fish was a 12lbs common carp which he hooked on the final whistle using the pole and pellet or paste.

The Welsh team finished fourth out of the 13 regions competing.

North West Flyfishers cast their lines at the Foremark Reservoir in Derbyshire where Peter Navin was top rod with five rainbows weighing 11-13-0, all taken on a lure. Runner-up was Brian Harvey with six fish for 11lbs, while Simon Fletcher was third with five fish for 8-12-0.

With 6lbs of bream and tench, Mark Davies won the Manley AC match at Manley Springs. John Bristow followed with 5-12-0 and Bill Bristow with 4-12-0.

Ron Evans reeled in victory in the Gros -venor Estates AC match on the Dee at Radley Woods with 2-8-0 of small fish from John Mort's 1-10-0 and Danny Mort's 1-8-0.

There was a large turnout for Sunday's Birkenhead Centre AC open match on the golden nook length of the SU Canal at Waverton. Paul Denson was the winner with a 3lbs bream in his 4-15-8 total, followed by Des Wall with 4-5-8 of good roach and Wendy Locker with a bream-based 3-6-0.

Harry Wszolek took the honours in the Ermine AC match in the Severn at Monk-moor with a perch-based 3-4-8, beating Steven Bridson's 2-14-4 and Nigel Croft with a 1-10-12 mixture.

Malpas AS fished at Bronington pool where Keith Arrowsmith landed 4-9-0 of tench to beat Ron Burgess' 4-6-0 or roach and tench and Cyril Roberts' 1-10-0 of roach.

Geoff Selby landed 11-11-0 of perch and roach to win the Lobol AS match on the Weaver at Hulse's Island, ahead of Kevin Cooke who had 9-15-0 of perch and roach and Peter Cooke with 9-8-0 of roach.

Bob Ruscoe led the field at the end of the Railway, Barrow AC match on the Severn at Monkmoor with 13-4-0 of chub up to 2-8-0 and some dace. Trevor Roberts was his nearest rival with 8-6-0, including a 6-12-0 barbel, with Ken Cory third with 0-6-0.

Jason Davies took an impressive 62-12-0 of carp to win the Upton AC match at Tattenhall's Cheshire Fishery, followed by Phil Hardman with a carp-based 42-4-0 and Rob Parker with 31-8-0.

Mike Pearson won the Ellesmere Port British Legion AC match on the Weaver at Winsford with 3-10-0 of chub and roach, just ahead of John Lyth who took 3-8-0 of roach and gudgeon, and Andy Fletcher with 2-10-0.

Mark Davies landed 9lbs of carp to win the Blacon Social Club AC match at Offa's Dyke Pool, well ahead of Michael Coleclough's 5-10-0 of carp and George Snell's 3-4-0 of carp.

Neston Match Anglers' AC fished their final match of the year at Hampton Springs where Barry Davies signed off with 14-9-0 of carp and chub. Tom Hardy was second with 10-10-8 of carp and Les Hall took 7-13-0 of carp and tench.

Mick Lawson collected top spot in the Royal Mail, Chester AC match on the Weaver at Meadow Island with 3-13-0 of roach, followed by Mike Walsh with 3-11-0 and Stan Williams with 3-5-0.

Rob Winstanley included a 1-4-0 perch in his winning bag of 4-14-0 to win the Caldy AS match on the SU Canal at Tattenhall. Brian Ripon was his closest challenger with 1-7-0, while Joe Piercey had 0-12-0 of roach.

Mark Lucas made the grade in the Burton Mere Fishery midweek open with a 51-13-0 mixture. Steve Boyd took 35-9-0 and John Turner 35-8-8 to fill the minor places. The Sunday match went to John Turner with a carp-based 75-15-0 from Tom Carvery's 38-12-0 and Len Redman's 33-11-0.

Chris King ruled in the Rivacre AC match on the Carterhouse length of the Sankey-St Helens Canal with 7-10-0 of roach. Ciggy Butler's 7-4-0 of roach put him second and Dave Grimes was third with 3-11-0 of roach.

Jeff Williams was top in the Rake and Pikel AC match on the Weaver with 10-12-0 of roach, from Alan Williams with 8-4-0 and Dave Spencer with 7-14-0.

Andy Broadhurst was kept busy in the Retired Professionals SAC match off Conway, landing 100lbs of fish, including six tope up to the 20lbs mark. John Barker and Dave Quinney were next with 75lbs.

Only four fish were caught in the Chester Police Flyfishers match at Ty-Mawr. Jim Fryer had a brace weighing 4-6-0 to win from Derek Scott's 1-8-0 rainbow and Tony Rigby with a 1-4-0 fish.

Several members of Wirral Gamefishers recorded good catches last week. John Bales, of Farndon, lured a 5-8-0 rainbow from a boat on Llyn Brenig, John Fernee, of Marford, coaxed salmon of 11-8-0 and 11lbs from club waters on the Dee at Chirk and, from the same water, Graham Fergus of Chester took an 8lbs salmon to a fly.

Dearnford Hall: Stan Mee, of Chester, bagged their top fish of the week, an 11-11-0 rainbow to a gold-headed damsel fly nymph.

Milton Green: John Walker, of Chester, lured six carp between 4lbs and 7lbs to luncheon meat.

Harthill: Simon Bowers, Ellesmere Port, netted tench of 5lbs and 3-8-0 to cheese and 42lbs of roach, rudd and perch taken with maggot.

Cheshire: Hatton Heath's Gary Jones bagged 15 carp for a total of 62lbs, the best weighing 5-8-0. All fell to corn or meat.

Hampton Springs: Moreton angler Dennis rich took 10 carp from the folly pool, mostly in the 6lbs to 12lbs range using floating breadcrust.

Meadow: Peter Doyle, of Upton, fished a viva to take a 4-10-0 rainbow.

Lake Hill: Paul Collins, of Ellesmere Port, tempted a 6-10-0 rainbow to a yellow lure and Neston's Tom Matthews, netted rainbows of 4lbs and 3lbs using worm.
