BURMA pulled off a major surprise in Runcorn Apec Taxis Darts League, beating hitherto Section Three leaders Pavilions 6-3

The basement battlers had previously only one league victory to their credit.

Their victory enabled Welly to take over the top spot in the table.

Welly, 5-4 winners against Dread-naughts, were helped by a 106 finish from Neil Lambert.

Prospect Has Beens, who defeated Fiddlers Three 5-4, also moved ahead of Pavilions, into second place.

Lion Stonecutters, 5-4 winners against Union Tavern, climbed above Dreadnaughts to fourth place.

Total Confusion, who are in sixth, gained an emphatic 8-1 victory over next-to-bottom Dray.

It was also a red letter day for Red Admiral. They gained a first win of the season in Section One, beating Tranny Lads 5-4.

Ironically, the best individual dis-play came from Tranny's Tom Humphries, who finished in 17 darts.

There is no change at the top of the table, although the leaders, Halfway A, were pushed all the way in their derby match against Halfway Gents before triumphing 5-4.

Top display for the pacesetters was an 18-darter from Steve Worrall.

Second-placed Albion, 6-3 winners against Lion Doo Waps, were helped by a 19-dart game from Paul Melia. Tony Jones (Lion Doo Waps) produced a 101 finish.

Comfortable 7-2 winners against Roundhouse, Navvy moved ahead of Lion Doo Waps into fourth place.

Steve Finney produced an outstanding 171 throw for the losers, consisting of three treble 19s.

Third-placed Clarry B kept in touch with the two leading teams by beating Dock Lads 5-4.

A 5-4 victory over hitherto third-placed Tricorn enabled Union Tap to open a four-point lead in Section Two.

A contributing factor to Union's position of strength was Halton Marauders's defeat of second-placed Grapes 5-4.

Halfway Mixed moved ahead of Tricorn into third place, beating Wanderers 5-4.

Meanwhile, Outcasts are still struggling. They were whitewashed 9-0 by RAOB.

The top-of-the-table clash in Section Four resulted in leaders, Tranny Rovers, stretching two points clear of their nearest rivals.

This followed a 6-3 victory over The Tup, who are in second place.

Stephen Ainsworth scored a maximum for the winners.

Jolly Brewer, 5-4 winners against Raven, now share second place with The Tup with the pair having identical records.

Fourth-placed Quayside defeated Castle Knights 7-2 and are eagerly awaiting any slip-ups by the top three.

Alfie's Arrows have overcome a poor start to the season and moved into sixth place with a 5-4 win over Nil Points.

Unfortunately, because of prior commitments, Royal Oak Aces were unable to field a team against Bennett's Boys.

* Friday's preliminary-round ties in the Committee Section Cup consisted of just two matches in Section One of the competition.

Andy Scott produced a 13-dart game for Red Admiral.

But opponents Tranny Lads, beaten by the 'Addy' in their league encounter the previous night, were not to be denied and took the match 5-4. Stuart Bousfield's 16-dart game for the Admiral included a maximum.

The other tie played saw Albion gain a 7-2 win over Dock Lads.

* Following this Friday's preliminary-round matches in the Individual Competition, there will be a two-week break over Christmas and New Year.

League matches resume on Thursday, January 4.
