A CHRISTLETON High School student is making great strides in athletics and football.

Phil Hopkins represented his school at a competition involving schools from Cheshire, Merseyside and Deeside.

He won the 12-year-olds’ 100m sprint final and is now ranked in the UK top three for schoolboy sprinters in his age group.

Phil has also achieved plenty of success on the football field.

With his club, Vicars Cross Dynamos, he won the under 12s Chester Cup and the U12s President’s Cup last season.

He was also a member of the Christleton High teams which won the Year 7 Cheshire Cup and Year 8 Cheshire Cup.

He had trials with Manchester United and was also offered trials with Liverpool, but because of his young age his parents have decided he should instead opt for his local club, Chester FC.
