FOUR West Cheshire AC members represented Cheshire at the UK Inter Counties Cross Country Championships.

The quartet lined-up for their county and experienced tough competition at the televised fixture held at Cofton Park, Birmingham.

Issy Clarke posted 12 minutes and 29 seconds for 87th position in an under 13s girls race which attracted 302 competitors and saw Cheshire finish 15th out of 41 teams.

Evan Roberts was first home for the Cheshire U13s boys team after clocking 11:20 for 74th place.

The Tarporley High School pupil was backed up by Josh Hinchly (149th in 11:44) and clubmate Christy Mageean (230th in 12:10).

There were 311 finishers in the race, with Cheshire 28th out of 41 teams.

West Cheshire AC’s Dave Alexander was the fifth scoring counter for Cheshire men’s team after posting 40:33 for 225th place in a field of 229.

Cheshire finished 27th out of 36 teams.

Tarporley High pupil Amy Hinchly was 16th in a time of 18:04 in an U15 girls race won by Cheshire team-mate Harriet Knowles-Jones in 16:56. The pair helped earn their county second place in the team standings behind eventual winners, Berkshire.

Upton High School student Tessa McCormick finished 25th in 22:25 in the U20 women’s race, helping the Cheshire team finish third.

Richard Batterham posted one hour, 39 minutes 58 seconds for fourth place in the Over 60s men’s age group and 166th position overall at the Haweswater Half Marathon in Bampton, Cumbria.

Entries are now being accepted for the Chester Spring Five Mile Road Race being organised by West Cheshire AC on Wednesday, April 3, (7pm start).

The online entry form can be downloaded at www.wcacrr.co.uk.

Entries will be taken on the day subject to the race – which has a capacity of 500 – not being full.

This weekend’s fixtures include the English Schools Cross Country Championships at Catton Park, Derbyshire, on Saturday, and the Rhayader five miles and 20 miles races on the same day (1pm start).

The Liverpool Half Marathon takes place on Sunday (9.30am start), as does the Sale Harriers Indoor Open Track and Field Meeting (10.30am start).
