Ruskin Park 34 Ellesmere Port 0

ELLESMERE Port went down fighting as their losing run continued on Saturday.

The struggling Oilers, who have now lost their last eight league matches, gave it their all in St Helens.

But their title-challenging opponents just had too much for them.

Oilers head coach Steve Dorrington said: “We played reasonably well but they were too strong for us in the end. Their backs were well organised and they moved the ball very fluently.”

Ruskin Park, for whom it was their third consecutive game without conceding a try, never looked back after racing into a 17-point half-time lead.

Kieran Molloy, who was enjoying an excellent game, had to be taken to hospital after sustaining what looked to be a serious head injury.

But scans later gave the powerful Oilers prop the all clear.

Dorrington said: “Kieran’s in good spirits. He had a really great game, particularly in the scrum.”

Ellesmere Port Under 12s lost their rearranged Cheshire Cup clash at home to Sandbach U12s 21-14 on Sunday.

But Port could take great heart from a performance which underlined the massive improvements they continue to make.

Ellesmere Port U13s suffered a rare defeat, 39-10 at home to a strong Caldy U13s side.
