Moore 43 Ellesmere Port 5

PORT fell to their sixth defeat in eight South Lancs/Cheshire Division Three matches on Saturday.

The visitors exerted plenty of pressure on the Moore line during the first 20 minutes but failed to turn their possession into points.

The hosts then stole the ball at a ruck and went the length of the pitch to score the game’s opening try – a pattern which was repeated soon after as the score became 12-0.

Moore scored their third try of the game before the break while Port missed two penalties which would have kept them in touch on the scoreboard.

In the second half, Moore pushed on and increased their try tally.

Moore’s pacy No5 showed a clean pair of heals to Port players on two occasions before the Wirral visitors hit back with a try of their own thanks to new boy Richard McDonagh.

But the game was well beyond the Port by then and Moore added some gloss to the final scoreline with a couple of converted tries late on.

Port host Trentham this Saturday (2.15pm).

Port 2nds remain top of the Wirral Merit table despite losing 17-12 at home to rivals Mossley Hill.

On Sunday, Port’s under 13s lost 28-7 to Warrington while the U12s ran in some impressive tries in a 60-7 win at Orrell.
