Linley 5 Ellesmere Port 30

PORT continued their incredible winning run on Saturday to keep the pressure on the top two teams in South Lancs/Cheshire Division Three.

A 12th straight league success means the Oilers still have every chance of clinching one of the promotion places.

Although third-placed Port trail Prenton by nine points and table-topping Crewe & Nantwich by 10, they have two games in hand – the first of which is at Buxton on Saturday.

To reduce the gap they will need more bonus-point victories like the one they recorded against Linley.

A Chris Carbutt penalty and tries from Ant Jones and Jim Callaghan gave Port a 13-0 half-time lead. But they showed signs of rustiness after an enforced three-week break and the lowly hosts touched down shortly after the restart.

But the visitors finished the stronger and tries from Steve Jefferies, Jones and Eliot Edwards settled the contest.
